How to Keep Your Business Running When Life Feels Impossible

The Truth About Self-Sufficiency in Business

For the longest time, I believed that self-sufficiency was my superpower. I told myself:

"I’m a great coach. I don’t need anyone else. Nobody’s going to hold me the way I hold me."

I was convinced that if I just pushed hard enough, showed up strong enough, I could be my own soft place to land.

But I was wrong.

When grief, burnout, heartbreak, or sheer exhaustion made it impossible to keep going, I had to ask myself:

"If I can’t hold myself right now... who is?"

Why Support Is Essential for Entrepreneurs

For those of you who believe in limitless energy, in tapping into something bigger than yourself… I see you. I am you.

But even if you know there’s an endless well of energy to draw from, you still need enough capacity to reach into that well.

And when life drains you completely, when your body is heavy and your mind is foggy, where do you find the energy to remember that the well is even there?

That’s where you need structure. That’s where you need support.

So today, I thought it would be helpful to share the kinds of support that have kept me afloat.

Some of these I pay for. Some come from service exchanges. And some are simply given with unconditional love.

The 7 Types of Support Every Entrepreneur Needs

1. Physical Support
When my business feels overwhelming, my body needs an anchor. Lifting weights reminds me: I am strong. I can hold things—even when they feel heavy.

2. Astrological Support
Yep. I have both an astro-therapist and an oracle in my pocket. Because sometimes, when I find myself asking, “Why the fck is this happening right now?”—I need a reminder that the universe moves in patterns. And those patterns can hold me, too.

3. Intimacy Support
I’ve worked with love and relationship coaches to untangle codependency—because, shockingly, the way we attach in love also shows up in business. Learning how to communicate and set boundaries in my personal life? Absolute game changer.

4. Business Coaching/Support
The moment I financially invested in a coach was the moment my business actually started thriving. Having someone who sees my blind spots, who calls me forward without letting me self-destruct. I can’t even put a price on that.

*Note, I don’t yet have “team” support, which is another category of business support that I highly recommend. I’m hiring.

5. Mental Health Support
I have lived with depression, anxiety, and neurodivergence for most of my life. And when I say lived with, I mean I have been in therapy on and off since the 4th grade. That support has been the difference between sinking and swimming.

6. Spiritual Support
Yoga. Meditation. Nature walks. Talking to birds. Speaking with ancestors. I used to hide this part of me. Now? It’s my lifeline. The trees hold me. My mat catches me. My ancestors whisper, you are not alone.

7. Sisterhood Support
This one was the hardest. Sisterhood wounds run deep. If you know, you know. But I’ve finally learned: there are women who want me to win. There are women who will celebrate my success instead of fearing it. And having that? It’s life-altering.

Build Your Support System Before You Need It

This level of support is why I still have a business today.

It’s why I can serve my clients so well— because I am held, too.

So let me ask you: What support systems do you have in place for when (not if) your energy runs low?

If your answer is, “I don’t know” or “I don’t have one”…

Permission to rethink that.
